Senior Dog Adopted After 200 Days at Orlando Shelter

Old dog at the shelter for more than 200 days wants to go home for the holidays
Rascal would love to be part of your family for Christmas!
ORANGE COUNTY, Florida. – Rascal has finally found his forever home.
The senior dog was adopted this month after spending more than 200 days at Orange County Animal Services. It was one of the longest stays for a dog at the shelter in 2021.

“For 222 days Rascal sat in a kennel and watched all the dogs around him being adopted,” the shelter wrote on Facebook. “At 8 years old, and notoriously stubborn and reactive to dogs, Rascal was neglected on a daily basis. The saddest part was that beneath all that rough exterior was hiding an incredibly soft and gentle heart.”

FOX 35 featured Rascal on Good Day Orlando before Christmas, hoping to give Rascal a home for the holidays, but no one showed up — until now.
The shelter received an email from a man who said he was just curious to see if he was ready for a new dog after losing the last one.
“His exact words were, ‘I need another dog to save me. “”
The shelter says the man and Rascal met and bonded immediately. He was adopted on the spot.

“He rolls around on this piece of carpet and we play. He already follows me everywhere I go here,” Rascal’s new owner told the shelter. “He fell asleep lying against my chest. I can tell he’s grateful…He’s in good hands. I swear I’ll protect him with everything I have.”
