Since last week, the number of animals arriving at the shelter has increased every day to the point where the shelter is full.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE SHELTER IS FULL

Since no animal within the jurisdiction of the shelter is ever turned away from the shelter regardless of its health, age, or temperament, the shelter is full.

When the shelter is full and there is no more space available to put in new animals, they must first euthanize an existing animal in the shelter to make room for the new one.

PROMOTING AN ANIMAL SAVES LIVES

While a person cannot go directly to the Midland Animal Shelter to welcome a pet, our tireless local rescues can “pull” a pet from the shelter and move that homeless animal to your foster home. . During this time, the animal will be checked for its verification needs and should be quarantined from other pets.

HOW LONG DO I NEED TO FAVOR A PET?

We desperately need food to house the pets for a period of about two weeks. Most animals stay in foster care for about two full weeks up to six weeks; however, the duration is always on a case-by-case basis depending on the animal’s situation.

WHAT ARE MY RESPONSIBILITIES DURING FOSTERING?

When you agree to foster a pet, you agree to do the following:

Provide a safe, clean and caring environment. Provide food, water, bedding, toys / enrichment and shelter. Provide exercise, socialization, and play time as needed (based on race, age, physical ability, etc.) Provide access to an enclosed yard or leash walks. Monitor any medical and / or behavioral problem. Supervise the animal outside, with other animals and children. Transportation to and from necessary veterinary appointments. Transportation to and from the adoption center and / or events. Provide regular updates on health, temperament, activity, etc. of the animal.

WHAT MHC PROVIDES YOU WITH WHEN YOU MAKE THE GUIDE – AND WILL IT MAKE YOU MONEY?

Cats and dogs placed in foster care will receive the following items: food; verification; medication; crates, bedding, bowls; collar and tag with MHC information and toys (if required).

So, no, it shouldn’t cost you any money to promote.

THE GOAL TO PROMOTE

Normally, the goal of foster care is to create a family atmosphere that will allow the dog or cat to unwind and really show their true personality as we work to find their forever family. It also gives animals more time to interact with humans and other animals and get more exercise.
