Jérôme animal shelter temporarily closed
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT / KSVT) – The town of Jerome animal shelter is temporarily closed due to staff illnesses.
According to the Jérôme police department, the shelter will be closed until August 11. During this period, however, the dogs are still taken and cared for in the facility. Police said that other than the public not having physical access to the shelter, business is business as usual in terms of controlling the animals and dogs that currently reside at the shelter.
“Call as usual if they [individuals] have an animal control problem, ”Jerome Police Department captain Duane Rubink said. “Just call dispatch and our agents will answer and take care of it.”
Southern Idaho Friends Furever Animal Rescue said they plan to receive more calls while Jerome’s shelter is closed; and yet, given the landscape of dog rescues right now, additional calls during this time are just the tip of the iceberg.
“I guess the impact this is going to have on us locally and on other rescues locally is not significant in some way because we are already overloaded,” said Dave Wright, Friends Furever rescue coordinator. .
Wright said his rescue had recently seen a large influx of homeowner surrenders, adding that they received an average of two homeowner surrender calls each day.
