The brutal murder of a South Derbyshire woman who was randomly killed while walking her dog is the subject of an upcoming TV documentary.

The murder of Debbie Buxton, of Hatton, has sent shockwaves through the region after she was killed in an unprovoked attack by David Bond.

The 35-year-old businesswoman was strolling along the scenic Marston-on-Dove shore in 1993 when she tragically met Bond.

He stabbed her with shears and hit her with a hammer in a frenzied attack, which caused shock and great fear among the people of the Hatton area at the time.

Bond had a history of violence against women and had been released from prison just 11 weeks before attacking Ms Buxton, whom he did not know.

Now the horrific murder will be revisited as part of a new series called Murdered At First Sight, reports Staffordshire Live.

The series started earlier this month on Sky Crime and the episode about Ms Buxton will air at 9pm on Wednesday April 6.

The episode is called “When Paths Cross” and film crews arrived in the area earlier this year to shoot the program.

The synopsis reads: “In April 1993, 35-year-old businesswoman Debbie Buxton was walking her dogs along the bank of her local river in the Derbyshire village of Marston-on-Dove when she crossed paths with the man who will end his life. David Bond has a history of unprovoked assaults on foreign women and has just been released from prison.”

Among those appearing in the episode is fisherman and Burton adviser John Anderson, who met Bond in the days leading up to the murder and will never forget how uncomfortable Bond made him. after seeing him watching him fish.

Mr Anderson went for a knife along the riverbank in the days after Ms Buxton died, although it turned out it was not the murder weapon.

He had gone fishing on the river around where Mrs Buxton would be murdered when he came across Bond.

Mr Anderson said: “Woodcut Media approached me about being on a TV show which is being shown across the UK and America. They asked if I would film with them and I met their team at the where I saw Mr Bond and the areas where the incidents took place.

“I showed them exactly where the murder took place. They did an interview about the bank and I showed them where he was looking at me from. Bond made me very uncomfortable. We talked about my experiences in this area.

“They had to do a lot of takes as the light changed so they had to keep doing it for continuity. Most were about my experience with this person. I was filmed walking up the bank of the River.

“We then went upriver to the Marston Weir, which has since changed a lot. That’s where I found the knife and gave it to the police, but they said they already had it They were looking for weapons in the undergrowth.

“I don’t think I’ll get a chance to see the show as I don’t have Sky but I’m not nervous about it. If it makes a small difference it’s definitely worth it.”

Bond was first jailed for 40 years, but his sentence was later reduced to 25 years. His 25-year minimum fee expired in May 2018 and he appeared before the parole board three times in an attempt to be released, but failed each time.

Last time he asked to be released on parole or, failing that, to be transferred to an open prison, but he was refused.

The review of his case said that at the time of the horrific attack, Bond, now 55, “believed it was okay to hurt women and he was prepared to use extreme violence and to use weapons”.

He said: “He had a low opinion of himself and had difficulty maintaining relationships. He had also had difficulty dealing with extreme emotions, including feelings of anger. He had abused alcohol to s help cope, but Mr. Bond hadn’t solved life’s problems well enough, and he hadn’t given enough thought to the consequences of his actions.”

Evidence at the parole hearing, which was heard by a panel, Bond and his legal representative in prison were told his behavior at the start of his sentence had been poor but “he changed course” and had undertaken accredited programs to address decision making, better ways of thinking, alcohol abuse and a tendency to use violence.

The report said: “Witnesses were divided in their recommendations. The official supervising him in prison noted that Mr Bond had positively engaged in the interventions and was now safe to be transferred to open conditions. The independent psychologist has accepted.

“In this case, the protective factors that would reduce the risk of recidivism were considered to be Mr. Bond’s improved attitudes towards people in positions of authority, better coping skills, positive life goals and a support network.

“Both psychologists felt that Mr Bond’s insight had improved, but the prison service witness was concerned that there were still aspects of his personality which Mr Bond would need to manage and that the immediate transfer under conditions open could be destabilizing.

“Mr Bond’s probation officer could not recommend release on license or transfer on open terms, but advised that progression to an intermediate prison regime may have benefits.

“Mr Bond himself admitted that he was not yet ready to be released and that the management plan was still in its infancy.”

With this in mind, the panel concluded that it was not satisfied that Bond, who was living in Stretton at the time of the murder, was fit for release and did not recommend that the Secretary of State transfer him to a prison. opened.
