Chargers’ team doctor accidentally pierces starting QB Tyrod Taylor’s lung

Tyrod Taylor saw a doctor for relief from a cracked rib. He ended up with a punctured lung.
The Los Angeles Chargers starting quarterback was injured Sunday before a game against the Kansas City Chiefs, according to reports. A doctor from the Chargers team was trying to give an injection of pain reliever and accidentally punctured Taylor’s lung.
Taylor was unable to play, replaced by rookie Justin Herbert in a possible overtime loss. Taylor is also expected to miss Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers.
George Atallah, executive director of the NFL Players Association, addressed the issue Wednesday: “Our medical and legal team has been in contact with Tyrod and his agent since Sunday to gather facts,” Atallah tweeted. ” An investigation has been opened.
According to a ESPN report, “The injection that Taylor received is not entirely rare, but it carries a risk because a doctor injects without seeing where the needle goes. Still, it’s rare for a player to suffer from a punctured lung from the injection, especially just before kick-off, sources said.
Taylor is in his 10th season in the NFL and second with the Chargers. He started the opener, completing 16 of 30 passes for 208 yards in a 16-13 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. Herbert, the sixth draft pick, finished 22 of 33 for 311 yards on Sunday in his debut.
Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn has publicly supported Taylor as a starter, as long as he is in good health. For at least a week, it doesn’t look like it will.
ESPN reported that Taylor ended up in hospital after the injection because he was having trouble breathing. Doctors advised him to sit “indefinitely,” according to ESPN.
