GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Celebration Cinema will begin reopening theaters on Friday, October 9.

The Grand Rapids-based company said theaters slated to open on Friday include Celebration Cinema in Studio Park in downtown Grand Rapids, Celebration Cinema Rivertown in Grandville, Celebration Cinema North in Grand Rapids, Celebration Cinema Crossroads in Portage, Celebration Cinema Lansing and Cinema Carousel in Muskegon.

Theaters in Benton Harbor, Mount Pleasant, as well as Celebration Cinema South (located south of Grand Rapids in Gaines Township), are expected to open in the “next few weeks,” according to a press release from Studio C, the company that owns Celebration Cinema. .

“We have been working towards this day in conjunction with all of our industry,” said JD Loeks, president of Studio C, in a statement. “We fully believe in the value of coming together around stories, art and music. We appreciate the importance of getting the right details to ensure the safety and comfort of our team and our guests. “

Theaters across much of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula have been closed since March in response to executive orders from Governor Gretchen Whitmer designed to minimize the spread of the coronavirus. On September 25, Whitmer announced that it was allowing theaters to reopen on October 9.

Celebration Cinema says it is taking the following steps to reopen safely:

  • “The physical distancing measures will include a reduction in the number of seats, in accordance with guidelines from the CDC and the local health department. Reserved seats will automatically space groups apart.
  • “Celebration Cinema staff will use personal protective equipment, including face masks. Guests are required to wear masks, although they can be removed when a guest is seated and enjoying their popcorn and other cinematic snacks. “
  • “All customers are encouraged to pre-purchase their tickets online at celebrationcinema.com or through the Celebration Cinema app. The online convenience fee is temporarily waived to minimize lines. “
  • “Celebration Cinema will not accept cash payments. Please only plan for online, credit card or gift card purchases.
  • “Frequent cleaning of high-contact surfaces will be continuous and deep cleaning overnight. “
  • “Movie treats will be available! Skip the line by purchasing from the Celebration Cinema website or app for delivery directly to your theater seat.
