Bloomfield woman attacked by dogs speaks out
Bloomfield, Iowa (KYOU) – On the night of July 28, Rachel Jones was walking her dog when two dogs appeared and chased them. Jones had no time to react when the two dogs started to jump on her and bite her.
“At that point two dogs saw us and ran straight towards us in a dead run,” Jones said.
She looked around, trying to find a direction to run, but it was too late. Finally, she fell to the ground screaming for help. Struggling, Jones took out his pepper spray and used it against the two attacking dogs; it didn’t do much because even when the dogs were sprayed, they eventually continued to attack.
Upon crying for help, Jones thought she and her dog were both going to die. “I really felt at that point that we could die there if we didn’t get help,” Jones said.
His dog howling in pain, Jones and his dog were taken to a nearby house where their injuries were treated. There were five witnesses to this attack, according to Jones, and only one was shot by the officer on duty.
It was not Jones’ first encounter with these two dogs. On July 10, Jones was walking through Bloomfield Square when the two dogs spotted her. Fortunately, she was able to escape to a nearby business. Police documents show the two dogs are known for their attacks, and Jones is not the only one who has reported the animals.
The town of Bloomfield has orders in place for attacks like the one that happened to Jones. The owners will be fined. “The first offense is a warning, the second is a citation for $ 100.00 and the third is a citation for $ 250.00,” Deputy Chief Zach Dunlavy said.
According to Dunlavy, there is no specific number of hits an owner can receive for their dog, which is being discussed by the court.
Both dogs have been reported in the past to run free, aggressive and biting. The couple who own the two dogs have already been cited and brought to justice, police said. Due to the unpaid fines within the ten day window and the failure to show the dogs’ shooting records, both dogs were euthanized on Monday.
On Tuesday, Jones shared that the couple already have a new dog.
