2-year-old almost loses an eye after dog attack in labor camp
In Bang Khen, Bangkok, a two-year-old girl almost completely lost one eye after an attack by what appears to be an abandoned dog in an industrial camp. a couple reported that a stray dog in a cement factory camp attacked their two-year-old daughter, causing severe damage to her left eye.
The little girl’s mother was out for work and her father walked away to take a shower when he reported suddenly hearing his baby screaming and came running to find that a dog was attacking her head. He was able to chase the dog quickly but the baby had already been seriously injured.
She was rushed to hospital where she had to undergo emergency left eye surgery, receiving silicone implants to repair damaged tear ducts. She probably won’t be able to open her eyes anymore.
The child was not the first to be bitten by the stray dog straying in the cement factory labor camp. In fact, other parents who worked at the camp said they were afraid to let their children out because of this vicious dog.
The dog was said to have belonged to a former factory worker who had left and moved to another camp owned by the same company, leaving the dog behind. The owner claimed no responsibility for the attack saying he left the dog there 5 or 6 years ago and that is no longer his problem. He sent his son to the camp to offer the girl 500 baht in compensation for the loss of her eye.
The child’s parents appealed to Paveena Hongsakul, owner of a soi dog foundation, who contacted local authorities and the police in an attempt to move the dog to a safer and more suitable location, where the children of the workers from the factory could again be safely taken out.
